If you live locally please consider walking to the park or car sharing where possible. Street/Road closures will be in place at set times throughout the day which may affect your journey. (Please see Road Closures page for up to date information).
Travelling by Rail – Rail enquiries and timetables
St Albans City Station: 15- 20 minute walk to Runners Village. Taxis and buses will be in operation.
St Albans Abbey Station: 5 minute walk to the Runners Village.
Travelling by Bus – Bus enquiries and timetables
St Albans is well connected on the local bus network with services from North London, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Luton and Watford, as well as routes to the city’s suburbs. Many services stop in the town centre which is only a short walk to the Runners Village.
Please note Sunday services may be limited.
If you are planning to cycle, there is a cycle shelter available by the entrance to Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre. Please remember to bring a lock as these are public bike parking facilities.
Travelling by Car
Verulamium Park is accessible from all major routes including M1, M25 and however please be aware that road closures and diversions will be in place from 9.50am and may affect your journey. Details of road closures are available here.
There is NO parking available for runners in Westminster Lodge Car park - Verulamium Park
Access to this car park is strictly by permit only, disabled and Leisure Centre users only!
We advise runners/walkers to seek parking outside of Verulamium Park to avoid disappointment, delays and traffic congestion. Please see recommended car parks below;
Designated Car Parks
Please note due to the runners village, parking is extremely limited within the park. We recommend you use the following car parks;
– Centrium, Griffiths Way, St Albans, AL1 2RE - Open 7.45am -2pm - FREE
– Watling Street, St Albans AL1 2QA - Open 8am - 2pm- FREE
St Columba’s College (A414, A5, M25)
- King Harry Lane, St Albans, AL3 4AW - Open 8am - 3pm - £3 donation to school charity 'Project Respond' to help their sister schools in Zambia. Please note this is usually full by 11am.
St Albans District Council Offices (A1, M25)
– St Peters Street, St Albans, AL1 3LD - Parking charges apply and open 24 hours.
Please be advised that the above car parks become full very quickly so we also advised using Drovers Way / Russell Ave Multi Storey car parks - AL3 5EB which are located in the city centre just a short walk,(approx. a 10 min walk), to the Verulamium Park. There are 900 spaces available at these car parks. Parking charge is £1 all day and are open 24 hours.
