Starting and finishing in Verulamium Park, the St Albans Half Marathon will take you through the stunning country lanes of St Albans. Although you may come across a hill or two, the view from the top makes it worthwhile. Known as the friendliest Half Marathon in the area, our marshals will cheer you on and entertain you with their fancy dress, and the free ice lolly waiting for you at the finish line is sure to get you through those last few miles!

- Participants must be able to complete the course in 3hrs 15mins.
- Participants who enter this race must do so with the intention to run a reasonable percentage of the route. Those wishing to walk must enter the Walking Half Marathon

When selecting your entry type you will need to select which starting pen you wish to be in based on your estimated finish time. Coloured starting pens were introduced in 2016 and worked very well in preventing collisions and injuries at the race start. Race results are done by gun time; however your chip-time starts when you pass under the gantry and over the chip mats so don't worry if it takes a while to get through the start. Both your gun and chip time will appear in the results.
If your training goes well and you wish to move pens at a later date this is easily done if you inform us by email or phone by 1st May 2017.
There will be a presentation of prizes to the Top 3 Male and Top 3 Female runners only. Additional prizes for the categories below will be sent to runners following the event.
Race prizes will be confirmed throughout the year as donations are kindly made by sponsors. However cash prizes are confirmed for the following categories:

One lucky runner will be chosen on the day to win a bundle of sponsor prizes! On the day of the event a finish place will be chosen at random, with whoever crosses the line in that place winning a bundle of prizes! Simply enter to be in with a chance of winning!
The St Albans Half Marathon is a charitable event. Proceeds for registration fees, for all events, will go to our supported charities which are chosen by the community. You are welcome to get sponsorship for your event, which can go towards our chosen charity or to a charity of your choice. Simply click on the "Start Fundraising" button on the right to get started!
Late entry fees will apply to the entry price from 15th May 2017 until registrations close on 6th June 2017. The cost of this will be an extra £2 on the entry fee price.
Please Note: We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an application/entry. We may also alter aspects of one or all of our events including routes, starts and finishes and water points.
IPOD'S AND MP3 PLAYERS
For 2017 we will be allowing the use of Bone Conduction headphones ONLY but the runner must declare this in their registration form before the event or they may still be disqualified. Any runner seen using any other form of headphone or who has not declared using bone conduction headphones will be disqualified. In 2016, 70 runners were disqualified for breaking this rule.
The Race Director has taken advice and in-line with current UKA and BARR recommendations on health and safety grounds when establishing our headphone policy. This is for your safety, as listening to music during a race may distract you from being able to hear instructions from race officials and other runners on the course. Please respect our rules, we don’t have many!
CANCELLATIONS AND TRANSFERS
You have the right to cancel your place in any one of our events and receive a full refund (excluding admin fee) if your cancellation is done within 7 days of your entry date. After this period we regret that we will not refund any entry fees, whether due to injury, illness, lack of training or a last minute change of plan.
Participants are able to transfer to a different race or transfer their registration to another participant. This option is only available until 1st May 2017 and an additional charge of £2 will be made to the participant who wishes to transfer. If a participant is transferring to a race with a cheaper entry fee the difference is non-refundable.
If a participant is unable to attend the event and doesn’t wish to transfer their place, they can contact St Albans Half Marathon via email with their name and date of birth to request a deferral discount code. This code will entitle them to 50% off 2018’s event registration for any race and will be valid for one use until 30th September 2018. The deadline for deferrals is 5pm on Wednesday 7th June 2017.

Please see the map below for details of elevation along the route. You can expect a few hills at the following mile points; 1.5, 3, 7, 8.5, 10 and 11.
